In this film made in Switzerland during the German occupation of France, Rosay plays an opera singer who commits suicide when she no longer captivates her audience. Her body is found without any identification. Police inquiries turn up four people who believe that the body may belong to a

person they know who has been missing. Each of the four then gives his story, with Rosay playing the missing person in each case. The other three missing women are an elderly peasant woman, a genteel school teacher, and the wife of a bargekeeper. Rosay showed a good deal of talent in her depiction

of the very different women with the subtle hand of her husband at the time, Feyder, guiding her. (In French; English subtitles.)
