A routine outdoor adventure except that it was produced by Edgar Selwyn who wrote and appeared in this very same drama on stage in 1907 and would eventually join his brother and their friend Samuel Goldfish to form Goldwyn Pictures in 1929 (Goldfish + Selwyn = Goldwyn). Despite the fact

that he was one of the major partners in a successful movie company, Selwyn returned to Broadway and spent many years there turning out dramas like this on stage until he returned to Hollywood as a producer-director-writer and cranked them out for the movies. By the time PIERRE OF THE PLAINS hit

the screen, he was 66 years old and running actor Carroll through his paces as a French trapper who gets himself into all sorts of trouble with bad guys (Cabot and Leonard), Indians, and women (Hussey). Carroll sings too, but only "Saskatchewan"--more than once.
