Screen treatment of the popular play (done more successfully on the screen in 1939) has Lytell on trial for the murder of his friend Herbert, who, it turns out, was a cad. Attorney Robards, a young and inexperienced counsel, manages to convince the jury that the murder was justifiable

because it allowed Lytell to preserve his wife's honor. Adaptation is rather weak, but a good cast makes the most of it. This film is of primary interest for its early and unsuccessful use of sound techniques. Muffled dialog, hissing "s" sounds, and distracting scratching noises combined to make

listening to the Vitaphone sound track a chore.
