This independent production attempts to make skid row the setting for an overly sentimental and indulgent dissertation on an individual's responsibility for his own fate. Donald Moffat plays a reformed drunk who has worked himself out of the gutter, only to have to face this hopeless lifestyle once again when his good pal Ralph Waite is in trouble. Moffat gives a strong performance but is unable to lift the material out of the gutter. Waite, who himself had a drinking problem at one time, and who did a series of TV commercials to underscore the help available to alcoholics, also produced, directed, and wrote the story.
