Of Love and Desire Reviews

OF LOVE AND DESIRE, Oberon's bizzare return to the screen after an absence of seven years, was shot in her actual 16th-century villa in Mexico and tells the sordid tale of a socialite's emotional life. Oberon lives with her half-brother, Jurgens, who is sexually obsessed with her. Enter American engineer Cochran, whom Jurgens has hired for some mining operations. Soon Oberon seduces Cochran, but sex turns to love, much to the dismay of Jurgens, who becomes insanely jealous. Jurgens tries to destroy the relationship by having Oberon's former lover, Agar, drop in. Agar tries to seduce Oberon, but she refuses. Desperate, he gets her drunk and rapes her. On awakening the next morning, Oberon attempts to slash her wrists, but is rescued by Cochran. Cochran assures her that he holds no malice and insists on marriage. Oberon begins packing and a distraught Jurgens confronts her with his obsessive desires, causing an upset Oberon to flee. Eventually Cochran finds her and they leave Mexico together. Overblown, badly written, and unintentionally funny.
