The movie BODY SHOTS wanted to be, a flashy, trashy soap opera about twentysomething hotties looking for sex in all the wrong places. Slutty Monica (Cayetana Guillen Cuervo), waif-like Yeye (Ingrid Rubio) and politically conscious Maria (Beatriz

Santiago) are roommates, sharing a huge, funky apartment in Madrid. Yeye is still smarting over her breakup with Max (Nancho Novo), who decamped without a word; she doesn't know that he was living a secret life as gigolo, working for lesbian pimp Cristina (Bibi Andersen). Maria has a crush on

Carlos (Juan Diego Botto), who thinks they're just pals, while Monica -- an aspiring actress who works as a bartender at Frenzy, the club where they all hang out -- will sleep with anything in pants. Meanwhile, Yeye's best friend Alberto (Gustavo Salmeron) has fallen for Alex (Javier Albala), who

neglects to mention that he's married and has a small baby. And Yeye and Alberto both have crushes on David (Liberto Raval), the hunky nude model they spot in art class. Oh, and Max is back in Madrid, fleeing obsessed cop Luis (Javier Manrique) who thinks Max brutally murdered a client in

Barcelona. Oh, and the girls need a fourth to share the rent, so they decide to throw a party to find their new roommate; Maria invites a man whose personal ad intrigued her, but winds up mistaking the psycho Luis for her dream date. Whew! Written and directed by three Spanish filmmakers --

Alfonso Albavete, Miguel Bardem and David Menkes, this 1996 film was a huge hit in Spain history. And while it may not be great art, it's hugely entertaining. The youthful ensemble cast is terrific, the story tears along and it's one long blast of sex, drugs, music and madness.
