Depressing crime melodrama starring de Marney as a dim-witted boxer who is forced to retire from the ring after receiving serious eye damage in a vicious bout. Things only get worse for the ex-pugilist when he loses his life savings and then his wife. Completely down-and-out, the

demoralized de Marney is brought out of his depressive abyss by Summerfield, a girl he knew in his childhood. Unfortunately this friendship leads to tragedy when the pair get involved with a sleazy gangster, Raine, who causes all of them to be gunned down by the police. While the unrelenting

despair of the film gets to be a bit much by the climax, the central performances are surprisingly good and lend some credibility to an otherwise unpleasant melodrama.
