This fairly revolting, but nonetheless interesting, film by feminist director Mai Zetterling stars Hjelm who, on the eve of his marriage, returns to the castle of his youth to discover why he is impotent. Through flashbacks, we see the aristocratic debauchery indulged in by his mother,

including orgies and incest. With the help of his fiancee, Hjelm eventually blows up the castle and embarks on a new, normal sexuality, but not until nearly every sexual taboo known to man is paraded across the screen. Though the movie is very disturbing in parts, Zetterling, incredibly, handles

the material with skill. Her attempts at deflating the aristocracy by showing them wallowing in sexual perversion are naive, to say the least.
