After a string of successful forays into comedy, Sellers decided to add a serious, villainous role to his impressive repertoire and came up with this competent but unremarkable effort. Set in the slum area of East London, NEVER LET GO details the activities of Sellers, a brutal, violent

gang lord who operates a car-theft ring. Cosmetic salesman Todd becomes involved with Sellers after his car is stolen by the gang. Finding the police no help, Todd becomes determined to retrieve his car. Through contacts, Todd locates Faith, the boy who stole his car. Faith tells him nothing, but

Sellers learns of the meeting and beats the young thief for talking. White, Sellers' young mistress, fears her lover and runs off with Faith. Convinced that the only way to be rid of the crime boss' evil influence is to destroy his empire, Faith goes to the police. The police stage a raid on

Sellers' warehouse, but find that the cars have been moved to another location. Suspicious, Todd returns to the warehouse that evening and finds his car. Before he can escape, Sellers attacks him, but Todd manages to subdue the crook. The police arrive, arrest Sellers, and Todd finally recovers

his car.

Aside from the change of pace for Sellers, NEVER LET GO is nothing more than an average crime thriller punctuated by bursts of shocking violence. The film is surprisingly savage and Sellers' character is positively repellent. Guillermin's direction is taut and has some flair, but the script lacks

a depth that might have made the characters more than brutal (and brutalized) cutouts.
