Music for Madame Reviews

This fluff musical features Martini as a young opera star who wants to hit it big in Hollywood. Unfortunately he gets caught up with a group of thieves who use the naive Italian as their front man. The nonsense builds to Martini's eventual success at the Hollywood Bowl. This was Lasky's first attempt at producing for RKO and his third bid to make Martini a film star. Unfortunately, the film is a real dud except when Martini sings. Martini performs "Vesti La Guibba" from Leoncavallo's famed opera "Pagliacci." Best remembered as Fontaine's film debut, MUSIC FOR MADAME was box-office poison, losing over $375,000.
