Downbeat tale starring Hutchinson as the oldest daughter of cruel hillbilly Barrat, who still believes in beating her even though she is an adult. Encouraged by her mother and family friends to escape the backwoods tyranny of her father, Hutchinson flees to New York, where she enrolls in

nursing classes and meets charming young lawyer Brent, who had helped convict her father of a shooting charge a few months earlier. Returning home to work for a doctor in a free clinic, Hutchinson is forbidden to enter the family house by her father. This suits her fine, but when her younger

sister, Jones, flees the house rather than be sold off as a child bride, Barrat again whips Hutchinson for attempting to aid her sister. This time Hutchinson fights back and accidentally kills her father. Brent comes to her defense, but she is convicted of murder and sentenced to 25 years in

prison. The sentence isn't enough to satisfy the vengeance-seeking locals, however, and they don hoods and surround the jail, threatening to lynch Hutchinson. Brent manages to save her in the nick of time and gets her on a plane to safety. Loosely based on an actual case in which a daughter killer

her father under similar circumstances, the film is hampered by heavy-handed direction.
