Yet another tear-jerking film dealing with the trials and tribulations of raising children alone. This one stars Peterson as the widowed mom who is left to raise four unruly children and fails drearily. Over the course of nearly 30 years, the children grow up and meet their fates. One

daughter marries a man old enough to be her father and settles down to a bleak domestic life. A son, a gifted architect, flees town to avoid a scandal that would ruin his career. The other son becomes a small-time hood and murderer who even kills his own sister (the other daughter) when she tries

to shield her lover from him. This cheerful family outing ends with the killer-son getting his in the electric chair. Karloff has a brief, unbilled part as one of the hoodlum son's murder victims.
