Mixed Company Reviews

Director Shavelson (YOURS, MINE AND OURS) once again explores the problems of an oversized family in this film, focusing on the household headed by the struggling coach of the Phoenix Suns, Bologna, who is at odds with his star player, McIlwain. On the home front, the coach's wife is determined to add to their brood of three, even though her husband has been left sterile by a middle-aged bout with the mumps. The solution: adoption. Soon the three newest members of the family--one black, one Vietnamese, one native American--are confronted with their neighbors' bigotry. Meanwhile, Dad's basketball team keeps losing, and he is fired. Confusion and calamity reign as the film moves toward its sentimental climax. The real-life Phoenix Suns play themselves.
