Holloway is a down-and-out actor who recites Shakespeare and opens the car doors of theater patrons to earn some money. In one of the cars is a dead body and Holloway runs off, then returns to find that the body has disappeared and a wallet full of money is lying in the gutter. He turns

some of the money over to the police and then hides the wallet and the rest of the cash in a seat in a cheap Italian cafe. The wallet holds vital clues to the identity of the dead man and his murderers. The owner of the restaurant finds the wallet, turns it in to the police, and the murderers are

arrested. The film was reissued in 1955 with 11 minutes cut out.
