St. Polis plays a murderous Viennese composer who kills his adulterous wife and her lover. He packs his bags and, with his young daughter, flees for the States. Eighteen years pass and the composer is earning his living as a Broadway restaurant musician. His daughter (Day) also has an

interest in music and lands a job as an arranger with a jazz combo. She and her beau, one of the jazz players, rearrange an old composition of St. Polis'. The Austrian authorities take notice and bring the composer to justice. Loosely based on the play of the same name, this pic briefly employs

the Technicolor process with a 12-minute opening sequence, and features the tune "Broken Dreams" (Ballard McDonald, Arthur Johnston, Dave Dreyer; sung by Buster Collier).
