Man from Cairo Reviews

This typical Raft crime story had a chance to impress but the dull direction did it in. Raft is in Algeria where someone mistakenly thinks he's an American who has been engaged by French Intelligence to help find $100 million in gold that was secreted in the North African desert nine years before, during the war. Raft meets Papas, who he thinks will help, but she is soon killed. The cops, headed by Lenoir, can't arrest Raft, as they have no evidence, but they do keep a sharp eye on him. Raft meets nightclub thrush Canale and induces her to admit that she and club owner Serato own a recording that purportedly gives the location of the cache. Serato is slain, and Raft finds Varelli and uncovers the fact that he was the officer who hid the gold. Canale is kidnaped, and Raft discovers that the local intelligence boss, Doro, has another business. He's made a fortune in transportation and is getting the gold out of Algeria through a smuggling operation. Lenoir and his men kill Doro, and a reward for the missing gold is split between Raft and Varelli. Raft plans to use his share of the loot to make an honest woman out of Canale, something the picture failed to do. In a career that saw Raft make many B films, this one must rank with the worst of them all. Even Papas, a Greek actress of striking beauty and classical training, failed to show any of her stuff here. Ho-hum and hokum.
