Sultry, voluptuous Mangano is a penniless young woman who is seen by a wealthy nobleman, Rennie, at a party when she does a sizzling mambo dance, and he helps further her ambitions as a dancer by enrolling her in a dance troupe run by Winters. Meanwhile, Mangano is lusted after by sleazy,

lascivious Gassman, who is all carnality. Rennie, on the other hand, expresses ethereal love for Mangano and offers her a gentle and problem-free life if she will marry him. She defers to Gassman, whose greedy instincts are heightened when he learns that Rennie is terminally ill. He encourages

Mangano to marry Rennie and wait until he dies so that she can inherit his fortune and turn it over to him. She marries Rennie, who treats her with great kindness, and she returns his love before he dies. When she receives the inheritance, Mangano gives away the money, rejects the shocked Gassman,

and returns to dance with Winters' troupe a sadder but wiser lady. Mangano sizzles in her role as a sensuous dancer and reveals a stunning figure during her slit-skirt routines. Rennie is princely and effective in his role of the gentleman and Gassman is appropriately hateful as the conniving and

repulsive lover. He and Mangano do a reprise of their roles in better films such as ANNA (1951) and BITTER RICE (1950). Winters is not impressive, mostly due to a vaguely written role. The photography is poor, the sets murkily lit, and the film often promotes eyestrain.
