A pre-"Love Boat" musical features Powell trying to marry off her widowed father, Brent, the captain of a luxury liner. Gifford plays a widowed passenger taking a cruise, wholly unprepared for the matchmaking efforts that she is about to be the victim of. Powell had been forbidden to go
with her father on the cruise, but stowed away much to her father's chagrin. Brent also played the ship's captain in the 1933 film LUXURY LINER, though his position and the title are about all the two films have in common. Though this film is slight at best, the direction never takes the subject
for anything more than it is and the film ends up being a good time. In between the slight plot are an abundance of those musical numbers that MGM is famous for. Cugat plays himself, doing a number he wrote called "Cugat's Nougat," and Koshetz sings a comedy version of Cole Porter's "I've Got You
Under My Skin." Other songs include "Spring Came Back to Vienna" (Janice Toree, Fred Spielman, Fritz Rotter, sung by Jane Powell), "The Peanut Vendor" (L. Wolfe Gilbert, Marion Sunshine, Moises Simons, sung by Powell), "Yes We Have No Bananas" (Frank Silver, Irving Cohn, sung by The Pied Pipers),
"Come Back to Sorrento" (Ernesto De Curtis, Claude Aveling, sung by Lauritz Melchior), "Gavotte" (from Massenet's "Manon," sung by Powell), and "Con Maracas" (Cugat, Candido Dimanlig, performed by Cugat).
