An almost grotesque dissection of the upper classes, LUMIERE D'ETE follows an innocent (Robinson) as she makes sojourn to a mountain resort to be with her fiance. This trip proves anything but the romantic outing she expected, as she finds herself surrounded by decay and people who are

shadows of real humans. Robinson's fiance also has become one of these leeches, as he nonchalantly drops her once he tires of her. A meeting with Marchal, a worker on a nearby dam, saves Robinson from this gang, especially from the greedy hands of Bernard, with the two eventually making an escape

to a better future. Though some of the symbolism might appear heavy-handed, the characterizations, notably Bernard's portrayal of an idle millionaire, and the contrast between the rich and working class, make a powerful impression. (In French; English subtitles.)
