Farrell runs the merry-go-round at a Budapest amusement park and falls in love with Hobart. She becomes pregnant and he resorts to robbery to supplement his meager income, but when his plans go awry he commits suicide to avoid capture by the police. A celestial train transports him to

heaven where he is told he can return to earth after 10 years. Upon returning, he realizes that he is better off as a memory and returns to the heavenly train. A clever premise, but Farrell is hopelessly miscast in the title role and Borzage, who had been so successful in silent films, was yet to

achieve competence with talking pictures. A silent version of the story was released in 1921 under the title A TRIP TO PARADISE.
