O'Brien stars as a hard-drinking reporter who has hit upon some tough times. First his wife is killed in an auto accident, then he loses his newspaper job, and later discovers that his son needs a $5,000 eye operation in Switzerland. He decides to ask his former boss for his job back, but

when he enters the office he finds the man dead. Coulouris, a diamond smuggler and the murderer, offers O'Brien the needed sum to take the blame for the crime. O'Brien feels he has no other choice but to accept. When he confesses to Scotland Yard authorities, however, they do not believe his

story. Coulouris, thinking that O'Brien has not kept his part of the bargain, tries to prevent the boy's plane from leaving for Switzerland. Maxwell, the dead editor's niece, goes into action, sees to it that the plane takes off, and rounds up Coulouris and his gang. It's overplayed and

melodramatic but has enough intrigue to make it watchable.
