A collaboration between Black (PRETTY POISON) and Segal (LOVE STORY), this film confounded the critics. They were unable to decide if it is a black comedy or a straight drama. They did agree, however, that it is very bad. The story opens in Venice where Brandon meets and falls in love with Walker. He follows her back to New York and continues to pursue her as she becomes a heavy drug user. She eventually dies from a heroin overdose, and Brandon returns to Venice. Reportedly, the film was extensively edited in an effort to save it, with a part played by Kim Hunter, originally one of the movie's stars, being completely removed. Note Robert De Niro in an early small part as well as writer Erich Segal in a bit part.
