Just one more of many prison films from Warner Bros., this one with a cast of relative unknowns and a trite plot. Purcell does a respectable James Cagney imitation as a convict housed in a cell in close proximity to his gangland archrival, King. A third prison inmate murders the latter in

order to gain the small fortune King has concealed outside the prison walls. Suspicion naturally falls on Purcell, but he is cleared with the aid of the kind offices of reporter Reynolds, who, in this implausible story, is given the run of the prison. Detective MacLane bumblingly follows false

trails while big-house employee Travis ambles on-screen from time to time, supplying Reynolds with the mandatory love interest. Remade in 1939 with Ronald Reagan as SMASHING THE MONEY RING.
