This wild romp is full of nightmarish characters and vivid color, but the director exhibits no real sense of what to do with these elements. INSOMNIACS follows a bizarre clique of characters as they make their way through darkened city streets. A group of kids leads the way, trying to

caution adults about the terrors of the night, but their warnings are of no use. The grown-ups these children of the night encounter are fitted with grotesque makeup and utterly mad personalities. In many ways this resembles a Fellini film, with its eccentric characters and largely

incomprehensible plot. Presumably allegorical, INSOMNIACS is too strange for its own good, and ultimately the unorthodoxies send the film spinning out of control. (In Spanish; English subtitles.)
