How Sweet It Is! Reviews

A very clean-cut family film that has the look of a made-for-TV movie. This could be explained by the fact that the producer, writers, and director all came from television sitcoms. The story concerns a family going through relationship problems. Mom, Reynolds, discovers that her son, Losby, has a crush on a girl going on a European summer tour. Losby wants to go along because of the girl; Reynolds talks her husband, Garner, into chaperoning and covering the tour for a magazine for which he is a photographer. Reynolds puts a large down payment on a Riviera villa and plans to spend the summer in Europe also. They get to Europe and split up, Garner and Losby with the tour, Reynolds to her villa. She finds, upon arrival, that she was swindled by Terry-Thomas, the real estate agent, because the villa is really owned by a rich French playboy, Ronet. After discovering the mixup, he asks Reynolds to stay with him as a guest. Meanwhile, Garner is getting attention from a pretty tour guide, Michael. Reynolds meets the tour group and Garner in San Remo and is disturbed by Michael's attraction to her husband and his indifference to the fact that she is living with Ronet in his villa. She angrily returns to the villa, disappointed and frustrated with Garner. When Garner shows up at the villa and sees her parading around in a skimpy bikini given her by Ronet, Garner gets mad and punches the Frenchman. After a bus chase and an arrest which sees the prim, demure Reynolds released in the custody of procurer Conforti, accompanying his ladies of the evening to a bordello, the couple reconcile for a rather trite ending.
