A weak entry in the Hammer horror stable, HOUSE OF FRIGHT was originally released in England as THE TWO FACES OF DR. JEKYLL and told yet another version of the age-old, done-to-death tale based on Robert Louis Stevenson's superb novel The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Massie stars

as an aged and dying Dr. Jekyll who develops a serum that turns him into the young, handsome, and virile Mr. Hyde. As Hyde, Massie discovers the affair between his wife, Addams, and his best friend, Lee. Massie kills Lee and then rapes his wife. Addams kills herself, and, seeking to cover up his

crimes, Massie kills a stableboy and sets the corpse aflame. In a bizarre twist, Massie manages to convince the police that all the crimes were committed by the deranged Jekyll, whose charred body lies before them. It seems as if Hyde will get away with murder, but at the coroner's inquest the

formula wears off and Hyde turns back into Jekyll and the truth comes out. Not as lively or gory as the previous Hammer efforts, THE TWO FACES OF DR. JEKYLL had trouble finding an American distributor until AIP agreed to release with a title change.
