A nerd picks up a hitchhiking hooker who takes him on a wild ride full of hot sex and bloody murder in HOT BLOODED, a 1998 straight-to-video thriller that subsequently aired on cable under the equally generic title HIT & RUN.
At a highway truck stop, prostitute Miya (Kari Salin) propositions a truck driver, Roy (Burt Young), who she then recognizes as her father. Not as put off as she is by the idea, he tries to rape her. She escapes by hopping into a car driven by Trent (Kristoffer Ryan Winters), a nebbish on his way
home from college for Thanksgiving. While escaping, they hit another trucker.
Trent and Miya stop for the night at a motel, and Miya treats Trent to a demonstration of her skills. When the motel's owner tries to force Miya to service him at gunpoint, she disarms him and escapes into the night. The next morning, state troopers question Trent about the hit and run at the
truck stop, but let him go. Miya calls Trent on his cell phone, and persuades him to take her on the road with him.
Roy catches up with them and forces them off the road. When he again tries to rape her at gunpoint, Trent intervenes, and Miya shoots and kills Roy. Back on the road, Miya encourages Trent to stand up to his overbearing parents and take control of his life. After a roll in the hay in a barn, Trent
invites her to meet his parents. To freak them out, they stop and buy some fetish wear, and get Trent tattooed and pierced.
The state troopers catch up with the couple, but Miya shoots one of them, and she and Trent escape. When they arrive at his parents' home, the police are waiting in force. Miya holds a gun on Trent's dad (David Keith), but Trent gets it away from her by promising to kill his parents himself.
Instead, Trent shoots Miya.
HOT BLOODED surfaced on video and cable in 1998, but was filmed in 1995 under the title RED BLOODED AMERICAN GIRL II. Aside from director David Blyth, it has nothing in common with the 1990 vampire flick RED BLOODED AMERICAN GIRL, alhough had any of the characters in HOT BLOODED turned out to be
vampires, it could only have helped this ludicrous thriller. Such a turn of events would have been no less preposterous than the many other head-scratchers here, such as: Why do the troopers let Trent go when he is so obviously their suspect in the hit and run? How do those same troopers then
determine that Miya is responsible for killing Roy? How does Roy track Miya and Trent down? And why does Trent drive for three days to make a seven-hour trip? Oh, right, to fill the time between the sex scenes. (Violence, sexual situations, nudity, profanity.)
