Stupid Lewis comedy has the comedian told by his family doctor, Lawford, that he has only a few months to live due to a heart ailment. Lewis' wife, Francis, urges him to indulge himself by traveling around the world, engaging in his favorite activity--fishing. Lewis takes his wife's advice

and uses his credit cards to run up charges of more than $100,000. Then, Lawford tracks him down in Lisbon and tells him he made a mistake--Lewis is not terminally ill. Faced with financial ruin, Lewis is easily persuaded by Lawford to stage his own "death"--which would allow his wife to collect

on his $150,000 life insurance policy--and then lay low for seven years until the statute of limitations runs out so he can return to his family. The whole thing, however, is a plot cooked up by Francis and Lawford to eliminate Lewis and run off together with the dough. Aside from a few amusing

Lewis bits at the beginning, the film tries to be a comedy version of a James M. Cain novel, and fails miserably.
