Cabot's a pre-DIRTY HARRY cop who believes in force first, questions later. He's out to stop some gangsters who are preying on junk dealers. The citizens are outraged by Cabot's tactics and protect the ex-convicts he leans on for information. Cabot is demoted by superiors, but this doesn't

mean a thing to him. He finally tracks down the crooks just before they are to ship a heap of scrap metal to help an unnamed foreign power's war effort. Cabot's performance is one-dimensional and the production values are not even average for the genre. This mean, nasty little film was a product

of "One-Take" Irving Briskin's unit at Columbia, whose habits were such that an existing forensic-laboratory set must have been available within the studio. Hayworth is wasted as a lab technician; the romance motif is minimal, which gives her little to do.
