Part psychological possession yarn, part feminist thriller, this tacky serial killer spree spends too much time painting its heroine into a corner. Widowed Lacey Cole (Catarina Conti) lives in the Pacific Northwestern town of Hobbs End and while her best friend Cindy, (Stacy Hunter), thinks she needs to move on, Lacey isn't yet ready and to put away her memories of her beloved spouse. Because her remote cabin needs fixing up, Lacey does accept Cindy's offer to share her handyman, Todd Farrell (Brennan Elliott). When the tool hunk shows up, Lacey starts humming, "It's so nice to have a man around the house." But while the rustic dreamboat reminds Lacey of her late husband, he's got an ugly secret: He's really escaped serial killer named Michael Bodine, on the run from Spokane, Wash. Bodine tries to frighten Lacey with a local legend about 19th-century settlers who haunt the nearby woods, but she's just mesmerized by his uncanny similarity to the late Mr. Cole. Although Bodine actually can channel the spirits of the deceased, he eventually shows his true colors. Lacey never knows whether she's dealing with an imitation of her mate or one of Bodine's multiple personalities. And after Lacey has stumbles on some of Bodine's latest victims in the forest, extricating herself from the smitten nutcase proves perilous. Can Lacey pull herself together and outwit the chameleon-like madman who fancies her? A vanity production for Conti (who did double-duty as producer), this creepy crawler dips its toes into too many sub-genres, including ghost story, psychological thriller and lady-in-distress melodrama, etc. Because the leading lady generates so little electricity, this cat and mouse game peters out in a flurry of blocked escapes.
