Cooper and Colbert are totally wasted in this film. Cooper merely wanders about in his role as a tramp-freighter captain. His crew rescues a drifting Navy boat containing a baby. Instead of turning the child in to authorities, Cooper plans to take him back to the States. When he advertises

for a sea-going "mother" for the infant, Colbert enters the picture. She has had a shady past, but hears that Cooper is hiring a mother, so she dresses up like a prim and proper woman, tells a fantastic story, and gets the job--as well as a free trip back home. All is well until one of the

sailors, Harris, recognizes Colbert and threatens to tell all he knows unless he can have his way with her. Cooper bursts in and throws Harris overboard. Colbert falls in love with Cooper, who feels the same about her, but when they dock in New York, Cooper is arrested for attempted murder. To

save him, Colbert becomes his witness, but loses his respect and they split up. She becomes a tramp once again and he begins to drink, but the two are reunited when the baby falls ill and a happy ending ensues. This film is a remake of SAL OF SINGAPORE (1929).
