This highly implausible courtroom drama tells the story of Mackaill, a known tramp and gold digger who murders a wealthy man who has been supporting her. In court, the testimony condemning the girl is told verbally (with sound recording), but the visual representations of the events are

shown in silent flashbacks. Several witnesses give testimony that is sure to hang the girl, but just when things look bleak, a police officer, Sills, arrives to make a special plea to the court. He doesn't deny that Mackaill killed the man, but instead essays a long, and apparently unrelated,

story concerning the time that they were shipwrecked on a desert island and spent several years together. Sills convinces the judge that if Mackaill would just be allowed to return to the desert island with him, both she and society would be better off. Amazingly, the judge agrees.
