His Butler's Sister Reviews

Durbin plays a small-town girl from Indiana who goes to New York to embark on a singing career. She plans to visit her half-brother, O'Brien, whom she believes to be a wealthy businessman, but who turns out to be the head butler for a famous composer, Tone. She wants to find work with Tone's help, but O'Brien hires her to do domestic work. He fires her after a few days because he believes that Tone may become romantically interested in her. Of course, this is exactly what happens, and even after O'Brien tries to split them up the two are still together at the end of the film. Durbin sings a variety of songs, including an aria from Puccini's "Turandot," a medley of Russian songs, "In the Spirit of the Moment" (Bernie Grossman, Walter Jurman), and "When You're Away" (Victor Herbert, Henry Blossom). Adrian and Raymond also gave voice, dueting on "Is It True What They Say about Dixie?" by Irving Caesar, Sammy Lerner, and Gerald Marks. The film earned an Oscar nomination for its sound.
