Frustrating, confusing, loud, and offensive, this horribly bad sequel not only continues to ruin the story line and characters so deftly created by John Carpenter in HALLOWEEN (1978), but sets a new standard of stupidity. The fifth entry in the "Halloween" series, it again concerns Michael

Myers (Donald L. Shanks), who returns to Haddonfield, after surviving a shootout, to kill a little girl with whom he is psychically linked. Of course, the indestructible Dr. Loomis (a delightfully over-the-top Donald Pleasence) pops in and out hoping to catch Michael before he gets to the girl,

and the usual promiscuous teenagers are also on hand. Unable to decide whether HALLOWEEN 5 is a slasher film, a psychological thriller, or a comedy, director Dominique Othenin-Girard has instead delivered a mess that is neither suspenseful nor interesting. The dialog is terrible, the characters

are sketchy at best, and the story is idiotic. HALLOWEEN 5 is a terrible movie, but what makes it even more disappointing is that Michael Myers (an effectively stark representation of pure evil in HALLOWEEN), like Norman Bates in the PSYCHO sequels, has been reduced to just another faceless

slasher who could easily pass for Jason's brother.
