Doctor in the House Reviews

The original "Doctor" comedy that spawned an entire series of films and a popular television sitcom, DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE is certainly the best of the lot. Simon Sparrow (Bogarde) begins his five long years of medical school and is immediately taken over by three student repeaters, all of whom failed their preliminary exams. Bogarde (like almost everyone else in the cast) is a bit too old for his role, but his appeal is undeniable and the film is notable for confirming his status as Britain's leading matinee idol of the 1950s. Shot with the appropriate lighthearted touch in bright, shiny color, with fine performances all around (Kenneth More is particularly good), this sometimes hilarious film started the series off on a high note.
