Dirtymouth Reviews

A well-meaning film about social comedian Lenny Bruce that spends more time on Bruce, the phenomenon, than Bruce, the person. Travis, as Bruce, is shown passing time in sleazy night spots and federal courtrooms around the country as he opens his mouth to spew out obscenities. Sherman, as his stripper wife, is commendable in a role that gives her nothing to do. The major fault lies in the script, which repeatedly tells what Bruce did to become such a spectacle, but not why. More penetrating and provocative is Bob Fosse's LENNY.
