After being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1998 and given only a couple years to live, noted Dutch documentary filmmaker Johan van der Keuken decides to use his remaining time to do what he loves: travel with his wife and shoot movies. Armed with a mini digital video camera, van der Keuken travels across the world visiting such exotic places as Nepal, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Brazil. He compares the somber, contemplative culture of Bhutan with the curiously-joyous though desperately-poor countries of Africa. Along the way, he experiments with different treatments, from Asian traditional remedies to the high-tech Western medicines, and he discovers a reprieve to his terminal deadline. This film was screened at the 2000 Berlin Film Festival.
