Cimarron Reviews

This is the second adaptation of Edna Ferber's novel of the first Oklahoma land rush. The 1931 version was the only western ever to win the Best Picture Oscar. This version concentrates almost exclusively on Ford, who plays Yancey, the man with an extreme case of wanderlust. This has an effect of distorting the story told so well the first time. While the opening of the film is a stirring depiction of the Oklahoma land rush, the remainder is a standard treatment of a familiar story. Nominated by the Academy for Best Art Direction and Best Sound.
