Annie Reviews

This charming musical based on the comic strip character Little Orphan Annie features many memorable songs and pleasant dance numbers, to which the versatile Albert Finney, as Daddy Warbucks; the leggy Ann Reinking, as Grace Farrell; and Aileen Quinn, an adorable, near-perfect Annie, tap, shuffle, waltz, glide, and leap for all they're worth. A great supporting cast includes Carol Burnett spoofing the role of the heartless Miss Hannigan, overseer of a group of orphan girls, and Geoffrey Holder as Punjab, Warbucks' magician servant who finds no feat impossible. A slim story has the child Annie escaping from the orphanage, returned, then selected to spend a short time with billionaire Warbucks, who grows to love her. The music includes the unforgettable song "Tomorrow," which receives several renditions. The production itself is rich and will certainly appeal to all ages. Nominated by the Academy for Best Art Direction and Best Musical Adaptation.
