More melodrama from Hungarian director Marta Meszaros (THE HERITAGE, 1980). Nat plays a Hungarian clothes designer who sees a young French tourist and becomes convinced that it is her long-lost daughter. She pursues the young woman and even arranges a meeting with her family, who are

visiting Hungary on holiday. The girl's French mother balks at answering Nat's prying personal questions, and the family goes back to France. Nat follows and learns that the daughter is ill and has been hospitalized. The girl needs a kidney transplant, and her French mother admits that the child

was indeed adopted. Since the adopted mother's kidneys won't match, Nat volunteers one of her own to save her daughter's life. Good direction helps the otherwise overly dramatic situation. Two entirely silent scenes are standouts.
