De Mornay is a wrongly imprisoned young woman who aspires to be a rock 'n' roll star. As a single woman with no job prospects or family, De Mornay has little chance for parole, unless she finds herself a husband. The man who fits the bill is Spano, a prison handyman and unmarried father,

who agrees to enter into the marriage as a business proposition. But De Mornay discovers she has gone from a real prison to the symbolic prison of a husband and family. The energetic ex-con then forms a rock 'n' roll band; seduces gubernatorial candidate Langella, who is running on a platform of

prison reform; and becomes a musical sensation. In 1956 Roger Vadim directed AND GOD CREATED WOMAN (ET DIEU CREA LA FEMME), a low-budget, titillating, semi-intellectual French tale of love. It was not a particularly well-made film, but it made Brigitte Bardot an international star. This remake,

also by Vadim, is a complete failure, indistinguishable from any number of equally uninspired Hollywood films.
