Keaton stars in another of his unfortunately dismal sound efforts, this time as a well-to-do yachtsman. While docked in Spain he falls for the attractive Tova, who freely returns his affections. However, he soon finds that he is merely a pawn in her game of playing two of her lovers

against each other with the aim of getting one of them killed. Not surprisingly, audiences and distributors alike felt that the film was unwatchable--a fault that can be attributed chiefly to Keaton. On the very first day of shooting, director Brunel received a note that warned of Keaton's love of

liquor: "Don't let him drink!" But drink he did, causing ill feelings on the set and driving the film over its meager budget. As bad as the movie was, the producers insisted that its 61 minutes weren't enough and brought in a new editor to lengthen it. However, since no extra scenes were filmed,

the only option was to add frames to the already existing shots. It was finally released in the US in its pared-down version, doing nothing to prolong Keaton's sagging career. It was to be Keaton's last starring performance until a 1946 appearance in the negligible EL MODERNO BARBA AZUL, a Mexican

Bluebeard tale that, mercifully, never had a US release.
