A feel-good movie for anyone who's ever wanted to see yuppies burned, blown up, or dropped from the sky. Indefatigable Michael Caine plays Graham Marshall, an aging ad executive who is passed over for a promotion in favor of his nemesis within the department (Peter Riegert). Graham is

already undergoing a mid-life crisis, and this professional setback sends him over the edge. But rather than suffering in silence or swallowing his pride, he takes matters into his own hands, determined to show the world just how bloodthirsty a shark he can be.

Once SHOCK puts its premise in place, there are few surprises as Graham--with a hilarious wave of his hand and a "Bippity, boppity, boo"--murderously removes one obstacle after another in his quest for success. Moreover, the film's venomous satire of corporate life is diluted by the hint of moral

uplift in its resolution. But that doesn't dampen the delights of SHOCK, which lie not so much in the tale itself as in its telling.
