Dyall plays a rotten-to-the-core restaurant owner who indulges in heavy doses of blackmail to supplement his income. When he turns up stabbed to death, suspicion falls on Williams, and it is up to Wiliams' doddering old detective father, Hodges, to clear his name. This was the

feature-film premiere of angelic actress Angel, who made a sufficiently good impression in such early talkies to be imported from England to Hollywood by 20th Century-Fox in 1933. Her U.S. roles tended to be pallid, and by the late 1930s she was appearing in B pictures. This film presaged things

to come for her; her third husband, Walter B. Sinclair (who directed such films as THE CAPTAIN IS A LADY and MR. AND MRS. NORTH for MGM) was stabbed to death by a prowler in 1970. This was also the first major feature appearance of caustic beauty Barnes, who made the trip west a year later than

Angel.
