This story of murder and embezzlement features O'Neal as the representative of a Milwaukee bank who goes to Stockholm to oversee the final details of a million dollar loan to a Swedish factory. There he meets Wieth, the factory manager who has secretly been embezzling money from absentee

owner Cederlund. O'Neal falls in love with Nilsson, Wieth's sister-in-law. Although she tries to discourage the American, O'Neal returns home to divorce his wife and once more flies to Stockholm. She again tries to reject him, but to prove his love he joins Wieth in his schemes and makes him the

beneficiary of the loan, which was also a partial insurance policy for Cederlund. The boss unexpectedly returns and the pair plot to kill him. But their plans are foiled when Cederlund commits suicide. Still wanting the money, O'Neal tries to make it look like a murder. The police catch him in the

act but he escapes and kills Wieth before being apprehended once more. Nice photography by Ingmar Bergman's photographer Nykvist gives the Stockholm locations the feel of a crime film's mise-en-scene. However the plot is too slowly built. Nilsson is a standout as the object of O'Neal's affections,

doing a fine job in her supporting role. O'Neal and Wieth play nicely off one another in their uneasy partnership. Though this was a Swedish/American coproduction, the dominant language is English.
