From Peoria to Hollywood comes Faye, seeking a career in the movies. Along with her icemen friends Frank Mitchell and Durant, she enrolls in a fraudulent acting school run by Grant Mitchell and Bradford. Wealthy Melton turns up looking for a place to invest some money and Grant, smelling

an opportunity, persuades him to finance a film starring Faye, on the stipulation that should production stop for any reason, the money would remain Grant's. Stacking the odds in his own favor, Grant hires alcoholic has-been director Dunn to helm the film. Dunn sees this as his last chance to save

his declining career and works hard to make the film good. Grant isn't through yet, though. He has Bradford take Faye up to a remote cabin, where Bradford drinks until he passes out, leaving Faye stranded. Dunn, who has fallen in love with Faye, is desperate, both for her safety and for the future

of his career. In the nick of time Frank Mitchell and Durant, her icemen friends who have returned to that calling, find her and deliver her back to the studio. The big production number is filmed, Bradford and Grant Mitchell go to jail, and the film becomes a big hit. A mediocre, cliche-ridden

script is nearly turned into something good by the direction of Marshall and the performance of Faye, but their efforts aren't enough and the film sinks in a quagmire of boredom interrupted by the idiotic clowning of Frank Mitchell and Durant. The production numbers are only fair and go on too

long. The lead was originally to go to Lilian Harvey, but she was replaced by rising star Faye, in Faye's fourth screen appearance. Faye's first big break had also come at Harvey's expense, when she replaced Harvey on Broadway in "George White's Scandals" and was spotted and signed by a 20th

Century-Fox talent scout.
