Heidi Klum's silver beaded Marchesa gown is an absolute knockout. End of story.

The beauty is in the details of Diane Kruger's heavily embroidered Chanel Resort dress. The floral motif is repeated in the leaf shape of her diamond drop earrings.
The smoky eye and studded shoes add an interesting tough touch.

Did Kim Kardashian's luggage get lost? Clearly, she must have had to borrow this ill-fitting dress. And the black satin boots. (Yes, that's what we said). Otherwise there is no excuse for any of this, separately or together.

This matronly gown of mismatched pastels is doing Kirsten Dunst no favors at all.
The craft project belt is the final injustice.

Janet Jackson's dramatic Pucci gown is the perfect style for her, but there's something funny about the way the bust fits that we find distracting.
Love the silver ankle cuff on the shoes.

Kristen Stewart really cleans up well. She ditches the dirty jeans for this lovely black-and-green beaded Balenciaga gown. Not seen in this photo — the sexy side slit and stilettos.

Kelly Rutherford's ivory gown fits like a glove, and we like the gold accessories. But something about the is-it-a-sleeve-or-not aspect confuses the eye.

Is it really humid in Cannes? We see no other excuse for the state of Julianna Margulies' hair. The L'Wren Scott gown, however, is exquisite.

We love the unique neckline on Nicole Kidman's Lanvin gown. The embellished strap that you see at the neck loops around one shoulder, leaving her back bare to the waist. It's classy and sexy all at once.

Paris Hilton's hair seems too casual for this gown, yet her jewelry seems too staid and heavy for it. The clunky putty colored platforms are just a no.

In a fashion turnaround, Tara Reid makes a fresh-faced and classy appearance in this dove grey beaded gown. Going against the fashion tide, she wears subtle diamond studs instead of the large dangling earrings that appear to be in favor these days.

The combination of the wide sheer panels and oddly squared-off, deep-V neckline make Kylie Minogue's gown seem a bit tawdry.

Though we'd like to see a better fit through the bust, we love a long, white gown on Eva Longoria. The sheer panels (which create the diamond and vertical line shapes) are an unusual design element.

It's hard to make Freida Pinto's fabulous figure look bad, but this gown seems to do the trick. Neon lace is a hard sell to begin with, but coupled with the fact that it makes her look short-waisted and hippy, this doesn't stand a chance.

Salma Hayek's chocolate Gucci gown is a stunner. We love the way the all-over beading from the bodice tapers off into a feather pattern, leading to the layered chiffon of the skirt.

This pale pink Alexander McQueen is ravishing on redhead Jessica Chastain.

The black panels on Jane Fonda's Stella McCartney gown give her a long, lean and youthful look — well below her 74 years!

Naomi Watts' dropped-waist gown and hairstyle have a lovely '20s feel. But this peachy-nude is not the best for her skin tone and the heavy choker belongs to a a different outfit.

Paz Vega's gown could do without the odd cutouts and gold belt.

We like Marion Cotillard's Grecian-style peach Dior, but the styling is what really makes this stand out. The gold metal belt and yellow shoes are creative accessory choices.

Jada Pinkett Smith often opts for a rather severe look in both hairstyle and dress, so we were surprised to see her in something so soft and pretty. We love the way the waves in her hair echo the feel of this flowing turquoise gown.

All that lacing and the cheerleader-y skirt make Diane Kruger's dress look more Forever 21 than Versus. However, those Jimmy Choo shoes are gorgeous and really emphasize her slender ankles and legs.

The lace trend marches on, but somehow we like Kim Kardashian in this red number. The high neckline and knee length make it sexy-in-a-covered-up way, and the gladiator-style stilettos work well.

In a nod to the event (the "Heal the Bays: Bring Back the Beach" fundraiser) Julia Louis-Dreyfus wears a a summer sheath dress in oceanic blues. The colors are gorgeous but we would ditch the belt and the super-matchy shoes.

The lace on Kristen Stewart's Marchesa gown lends her a rather hirsute appearance. Not really a look that most gals strive for.

Lea Michele often dresses too old or tries too hard to be sexy. But this beaded Jenni Kaye dress hits exactly the right notes — young, cute, fresh — and we love the silver sandals.

Here we have a bustier top, worn over a ruffled tank, with a hi-lo skirt that matches neither. If that's not enough for you, we've also got some footwear that looks like platform sneakers and garish lipstick. Heather Morris looks like she's on her way to clown school.

Scarlett Johansson is working a sort of '40s pin-up look here, with the red peep-toes and sideswept rolled bangs. The mismatched prints lends a modern touch and keeps the whole look from becoming too literal.

Chelsea Handler had some good ideas here, and then it just sort of ran off the rails. The basic black halter dress is a great shape for her, and her hair looks the best we've ever seen it. But the too-casual belt? The baggy, ankle-high engineer boots? It's all in the details, people!

Giuliana Rancic is dressed like a guest at the world's most boring wedding.

Khloe Kardashian wears a simple black wrap dress — but small details like a buckle at the waist and the asymmetrical hem provide interest. She does go all Kardashian on us with the crazy shoes, but it works here due to the fact that the rest of her look is low-key.

Whitney Cummings must be having an off day — we didn't even recognize her in this frumpy dress and washed-out makeup.

Leaving the hair out of it for now, we approve wholeheartedly of Kelly Osbourne's very figure-flattering dress as well as the totally on-trend hot pink shoes and lipstick.

Claudia Schiffer pairs trendy colored jeans (Guess, we're guessing) with leopard pumps and a fitted black tunic cinched at the waist with a fabulous wide belt. Topped off by that mane of hair, she looks much the same as she did in that iconic 1989 ad.

Elizabeth Hurley doesn't look bad but couldn't she look better?
This one-shouldered heavily-beaded nude gown seems a) the same sort of thing she always wears and b) a year or two past it's style heyday.

Given Cynthia Nixon's Sex and the City pedigree, we're a little disappointed by this attending-a-PTA-meeting-in-Nantucket look.

We like the slim cutouts on the side and the wrapped-style skirt on Elizabeth Banks' eggplant-colored dress. The platform pumps work here, too. It does feel a bit more appropriate for fall/winter but we're giving it a pass.

There's a fine line between cute and corny, and Jessica Alba's ensemble crosses that line.

Mischa Barton's had some hard fashion times in years past, so we've been pleasantly surprised to see her looking so well as of late. We love all that gorgeous ivory fortuny pleating and the way the straps on the shoes echo the shape of the midsection of the dress. Red nails and lipstick are classic with a look like this.
