Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced on June 30 that they are getting divorced after 10 years of marriage. Click ahead to take a look back their relationship.
Affleck and Garner first worked together on the 2001 film Pearl Harbor. Affleck played a fighter pilot and Garner played a nurse.
The duo teamed up again on Daredevil in 2003. Although the film wasn't a critical success, Affleck told Playboy he looked back on the film fondly. "That's where I found my wife," he said. "We met on Pearl Harbor, which people hate, but we fell in love on Daredevil."
The couple officially started dating in 2004 and got married in Turks and Caikos in 2005. Garner's Alias co-star Victor Garber officiated the ceremony. Affleck and Garner welcomed their first child, daughter Violet Anne in December 2005.
The couple's second daughter Seraphina Rose Elizabeth was born in January 2009 .
Affleck has always valued his family. "I have three women in the house...I get to be wrong three times a day," he joked on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2010. "I am madly in love. I have the best family."
Affleck and Garner welcomed their third child, son Samuel Garner in February 2012.
Garner acknowledged the couple's strong partnership in raising their kids. "We both know we couldn't do what we do without each other. Ben always says, 'If you love it, we can make it happen.' He knows when to swoop in with the gesture. He's sweet that way. Honestly, I would do anything for that man, because I know it's not taken for granted."
Affleck, seen here with Garner at the 2013 Academy Awards, credited his wife for helping him turn his career around. "Getting to know her, falling in love with her and being connected with her gave me a foundation to reach out and say, 'Okay, I'm going to do Hollywoodland. I'm going to direct Gone Baby Gone. Those were the steps forward I needed to put positive things on the board."
However, the first speculation that the couple's marriage could be in trouble began in 2013, after Affleck was criticized for calling his marriage "work" when thanking Garner in his Oscars acceptance speech after Argo won best Picture. "I want to thank my wife...for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It is work, but it's the best kind of work. And there's no one I'd rather work with," he said.
Rumors about their marriage being on the rocks reached fever pitch in June 2015 when a moving truck was spotted outside their house. The couple initially brushed off the reports, saying the house was being remodeled.
On June 30, just one day after the couple's 10th anniversary, the duo released a statement confirming their plans to get divorced. "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time."
