What started off as a small teen show has becomes a cult classic in the years following its cancellation. So what is the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer up to now that they're finished fighting demons?

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy)

Sarah Michelle Gellar starred as Buffy Summers, who was chosen from an entire generation of young women to become a vampire slayer at just 16 years old. Buffy not only defeats vampires, but also every kind of demon, as well as mummies, a giant ascending snake, and the first evil. She also staves off the apocalypse a few ... hundred times, all while being a full-time student. And she never stops making time for her friends, family, and super hunky vampire boyfriend(s). So what has SMG been doing since her slayer duties ended?

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Since bestowing her powers on a new generation of slayers, Sarah Michelle Gellar has been constantly working. She's lent her voice to the animated series Robot Chicken for the past decade, and starred on the CW series Ringer and the CBS comedy The Crazy Ones with Robin Williams. Most recently, Gellar reprised her Cruel Intentions character, Kathryn Merteuil, for a television adaptation which is under consideration at NBC.

Alyson Hannigan (Willow)

Alyson Hannigan played Willow Rosenberg, Buffy's magic-obsessed, brainy best friend who had an affinity for strong women. No one grew into themselves more than Willow, who made a transition from a shy, awkward wallflower to a mega powerful witch who was almost willing to end the world to avenge the death of her love, Tara.

Alyson Hannigan

After leaving Sunnydale, Hannigan moved onto lighter and more comedic pastures. She spent 10seasons as Lily on the long-running CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, and who could forget her portrayal of Michelle, the former band geek in the American Pie movie and sequels? Hannigan's next project will be starring as Maggie in TVLand's adaptation of The First Wives Club.

Nicholas Brendon

Nicholas Brendon was everyone's favorite nerd, Xander Harris, the third member of the Scooby Gang. Xander may have been a danger magnet (he attracted several lady demons, including his long time girlfriend, vengeance demon Anya), but he was the most loyal friend and the best moral support for the group. He also retained some military knowledge after being turned into a soldier one Halloween, which really came in handy a few times. So what's Brendon doing nowadays?

Nicholas Brendon

Brendon has had several guest spots on shows like Criminal Minds, Private Practice, and Faking It. But most recently, he's been making headlines for drunk and disorderly arrests. He was arrested four times in 2015 before he admitted he was dealing with substance abuse problems and depression and checked himself into a rehab facility. Here's hoping he deals with his demons as well as Xander did.

David Boreanaz (Angel)

David Boreanaz starred as Angel, the brooding vampire who was cursed with a soul. He made teenage hearts race everywhere as Angel fell in love with Buffy. But their forbidden, star-crossed love could only be saved by Angel leaving Sunnydale for Los Angeles, where he spun off into his own series fighting vampires, demons and criminals.

David Boreanaz

Boreanaz hasn't left his crime-fighting days behind. In fact, he's played Agent Seeley Booth on Fox's FBI series Bones for the past 11 years. The show's 12th season will be its last, so it's up in the air what character Boreanaz will tackle next.

James Marsters (Spike)

Every girl goes through a bad boy phase, and James Marsters' portrayal of Spike fit teen desires perfectly. Though he started out as a vampire villain hell-bent on destroying the slayer, soon his obsession morphed into romantic love. So much so that he went through grueling trials to gain a soul and (spoiler alert!) was willing to sacrifice his own life to save her and the world in the end. Swoon much?

James Marsters

Since leaving Buffy, Marsters has been a staple in sci-fi and fantasy television. He reprised his role as Spike in The WB spin-off series Angel, and has had major guest spots on Warehouse 13, Witches of East End, Smallville, Caprica, and Supernatural. If it ain't broke ...

Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia)

Charisma Carpenter played popular girl Cordelia, who got sucked into the Scooby Gang unwillingly once she realized the craziness of Sunnydale. She never lacked a snarky comment for those around her, stole Xander's heart, and followed Angel to Los Angeles, where she became an integral part of his spin-off. But now that she's not slaying demons, what's Carpenter been up to?

Charisma Carpenter

Charisma Carpenter has not had a lack of roles since saying goodbye to her Buffy comrades. She's had major arcs in a few shows you might have heard of -- Veronica Mars, The Lying Game, Scream Queens, and Chicago P.D. to name a few.

Emma Caulfield (Anya)

Emma Caulfield shook things up as the vengeance demon Anya. Her naïveté of the human world was refreshing and endearing, and the gang was always thankful for her extensive demon knowledge, which came in handy frequently. But what is Caulfield doing now?

Emma Caulfield

Caulfield hasn't left magic far behind. She currently plays the blind witch on ABC's Once Upon A Time.

Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn)

Michelle Trachtenberg played Dawn, Buffy's sister who magically appears at the start of Season 5. Though she was only on the show for three seasons, she became an important part of the gang -- mostly because she had a diehard crush on Xander and couldn't bear to be left out. Oh, and she was also a magical key who opened a portal to a different universe.

Michelle Trachtenberg

Trachtenberg has been working since she was only 10 years old, and has more than 50 credits to her name. Since Buffy ended, she's had starring roles on Mercy, Gossip Girl, Weeds, and Six Feet Under. Up next for the brunette beauty is Sister Cities, featuring Stana Katic and Troian Bellisario.

Anthony Stewart Head (Giles)

Anthony Head led the pack as Buffy's watcher, Giles. He started off only concerned with training Buffy and enforcing slayer rules, but eventually went against the council and was fired as Buffy's watcher for becoming too emotionally involved. But we loved the way he became the gang's pseudo-father. So who is Head taking care of these days?

Anthony Stewart Head

Head has done a 180, no longer playing a sweet and nurturing character. He now plays the too-wealthy-to-care, brash stepfather to his real-life daughter on the Freeform series Guilt. He'll also be playing Lord Capulet in Shonda Rhimes' Romeo + Juliet sequel series Still Star-Crossed this fall.

Seth Green (Oz)

Seth Green guest-starred as Oz, a surprising werewolf who falls for fellow nerd Willow. Things got too difficult between the inter-species couple, though, and Oz ended up heading out of town. By the time he returned, realizing he'd made a terrible mistake, Willow had moved on. To ladies. Oops.

Seth Green

Seth Green is the busiest guy in Hollywood, though you might not realize it. After leaving Buffy, he created the uber successful Adult Swim program Robot Chicken, which is about to enter its ninth season. He's also still the voice for son Chris on Family Guy (now in Season 15) and has had guest roles on Broad City, Castle, and American Dad this year alone. Keep on keeping on!

Amber Benson (Tara)

Amber Benson tugged at the audience's heartstrings with her captivating performance as Tara, Willow's witch girlfriend. She became a part of the group nearly immediately, and was beloved by all until her (spoiler alert!) sudden death by stray bullet. We're still in mourning.

Amber Benson

Thankfully, Tara's death was not the end of Benson's career. She has more than 60 credits to date, including Husbands and Supernatural. She's also started producing, writing, and directing her own short films.

Eliza Dushku (Faith)

Who could forget Faith, played by Eliza Dushku? She was a deeply troubled, angst-ridden slayer who was called to duty after Buffy died and came back to life. She was easily persuaded to join the dark side in the end of days. Don't worry, though -- she was rehabbed on Angel and returned to Buffy to help train the future generation of slayers. Total redemption. So what's Dushku up to these days?

25 of 29 Gabriel Olsen/Getty Images

Eliza Dushku

Kicking ass is still what Dushku does best. Her roles are a smattering of strong ladies with even stronger agendas. Her latest is on Cinemax's Banshee, playing Veronica Dawson, a tough and sexy special division FBI agent who's struggling with her own demons. Sounds like Faith is all grown up!

Alexis Denisof (Wesley)

Alexis Denisof plays the curmudgeonly Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, who got called upon to step in for Giles after he fought against the watchers' council to look after Buffy. Though his time in Sunnydale was short, Wesley followed Angel to Los Angeles and became an integral part of his crime-fighting crew. So what's Denisof doing now?

27 of 29 Amanda Edwards/Getty Images

Alexis Denisof

Watching heroes in the making must come naturally to Denisof, who has had parts on Grimm and The Avengers, as well as in Guardians of the Galaxy. But that isn't the only way his time on Buffy shaped his life. He also married co-star Alyson Hannigan, and the couple have two kids together. Awww.

Joss Whedon (Creator)

Back in 1997, Joss Whedon created Buffy The Vampire Slayer series based on the movie he'd written in 1992. Though Buffy struggled in the ratings and eventually moved from The WB to UPN, the show has a cult following that has endured the test of time.

Joss Whedon

Whedon is now a superstar on both the big and small screens. With the successes of Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., in addition helming the Avengers franchise, he's created a new generation of heroes for audiences to love.
