Summer 2004: Pitt and Jolie begin filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith together while Pitt is married to Jennifer Aniston. Both deny reports of an on-set romance, but later admit they fell in love on set.

January 2005: Aniston and Pitt announce their separation after five years of marriage. She files for divorce in March citing "irreconcilable differences."

July 2005: Pitt and Jolie do a "Domestic Bliss" photo shoot for W magazine portraying themselves as a happy family with children, though they still refuse to confirm their relationship. In response to the spread, Aniston says there's a "sensitivity chip" missing. Jolie adopts 6-month-old Zahara Marley from Ethiopia that same month.

January 2006: Jolie confirms she's pregnant three months after Pitt's divorce to Aniston is finalized. A judge grants a request to change Zahara's and Jolie's previously adopted son Maddox's surnames to Jolie-Pitt. Pitt's legal adoptions of the children are finalized shortly after.

May 2006: Jolie and Pitt's first biological child Shiloh is born in Namibia. Pitt and Jolie sell the first pictures of Shiloh for $4.1 and $3.5 million to People and OK, respectively, and donate the proceeds to charities.

October 2006: Brad says he won't marry Jolie until "everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able." He repeats this stance in August 2009 and July 2011.

March 2007: 3-year-old Pax is adopted from Vietnam. Since the country doesn't allow unmarried couples to adopt, Jolie adopts him as a single parent but legally changes his surname to Jolie-Pitt afterwards.

May 2008: Pitt and a pregnant Jolie attend the Kung Fu Panda premiere in Cannes, during which co-star Jack Black revealed that Jolie was expecting twins.

July 2008: The twins Knox and Vivienne are born in France. Pitt and Jolie sell the first images of them jointly to People and Hello! for $14 million with proceeds going to their charity The Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
